2023 Recipient
Tyler Houp has been selected to receive the second annual Youth Scholarship of $1,000 from Chester County’s Suicide Prevention Task Force. The scholarship was open to high school seniors in Chester County who contributed to school and community activities to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
Houp, now a graduate of West Chester East High School, promoted mental health at his school by raising more than $2,000 through projects such as a school talent show, where students had the opportunity to express themselves. He used the funds to invite a speaker from Minding Your Mind to share his story of overcoming depression and how to cope with anxiety. Following the talent show and speaker, Houp organized a “Yellow Ribbon Spirit Week” in November of 2022 through the school’s Aevidum club and distributed more than 500 yellow ribbons.

The Chester County Suicide Prevention Task Force mission is to decrease suicide through increased education and awareness. We know that we cannot do this alone; it takes all sectors of the community, including students. There are many students throughout Chester County which dedicate many many hours to raising awareness and promoting education on the importance of mental health and suicide prevention which is why we have created a Chester County Suicide Prevention Task Force Scholarship of $1,000.
Requirements
Applicants must be Chester County High School Seniors.

Please write a brief essay, no more than 300 words, describing your participation in school or community activities aimed at raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Activities may have occurred at any time during the prior four years and may be school or community based. Please be specific about your role and the duration of the activity.
