Mental Health First Aid USA

May 7 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports. Like CPR, this course prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia.

Mental Health First Aid was introduced in the U.S. in 2008 and, to date, hundreds of thousands of people from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have taken the course.

Chester County Hospital has partnered with the Chester County Suicide Prevention Taskforce to provide this free, evidence-based public education program. By attending this training, you will gain the skills needed to help another person who is struggling with a mental health or substance use concern or crisis. You will learn how to reach out and provide initial support to someone and help connect them to appropriate care. This program includes two hours of self-paced, online instruction that must be done prior to the in-person session.
